Cliches

I heard a saying once…Man Plans, God Laughs! Of course, I adapted it to (wo)man plans…
I have used this cliché many times in my life, yet I believe I am just starting to really understand the magnitude of those 4 little words!

Let me back up a few years and share with you what brought me to this AHA moment…
I had an idea about a new twist on a favorite past time, shopping; what if we offered current boutique clothing at discounted pricing in a fun, relaxed atmosphere with customer service being our number one priority, support our community through charity and art…blah, blah, blah
Ok, drew up a business plan, found space, connected with vendors, built a store and voila, Boutique Wearhouse was born! Less than 3 years later, we realized we were onto something, the community supported our concept as we have supported the community…we were actually offering something people wanted…a place where everyone knows your name (oops, i think that was Cheers), oh well, you know what i mean…friends, fashion and fun!

This past February, someone came to me who has been in the business herself for quite a few years and thought what we were doing was great and wanted to be a part of our vision and suggested we expand and open in another location, I wasn’t ready to expand as we were still in the toddler phase of our first born store, but to quote another cliche’….when opportunity knocks, etc! So, we set off to expand our family and bring the concept to a new community. We did it once, so how hard could it be to do it again, right? Wrong…I feel another cliche’ coming on, Murphy’s law, whatever can go wrong will…

So as a woman, I am totally organized and everything was under control! Not only a master juggler, but now an octopus as well, with my tentacles covering all the bases: hired an awesome staff, ordered amazing clothes to bring in Spring/Summer 2013, enlisted an architect to duplicate what we have already created all while keeping my family happy and somewhat maintaining a life for myself, while not losing sight of our firstborn store…whew, I am exhausted just thinking about it :) Now to the nitty gritty of business…
The permits…ugh! Ok, hurry up and wait, really wait and wait and wait and wait! Finally permission to build…but alas, wait some more! We are planning to open 2 months after we thought we would, ok, grow up little girl and deal with it, remember (wo)man plans and god laughs!

Pack the truck and set off to set up our new adventure…walk into the newly built store and what do I find out? “Hey”, says the contractor, “so, the inspector was here and um, the counter is too high, there needs to be a bench in the handicap dressing room” ok, keep breathing! “the outside sign will not be ready for about 4 weeks”, permits again… breathing becoming more difficult! Walk into the office, my desk is kitchen island height, really? I’m 5’2″, sitting in a hole, the paint is flat, not semigloss and wipe-able, the space for the mirrors is too small, they won’t fit… Scream, cry, regret? Yep, all of the above!

Then I woke up this morning and had my AHA moment…wait for it, yet another cliche’: It is what it is! So for the first time in many months I am breathing normally again because, guess what…
(wo)man plans, god laughs! It is what it is! Murphy’s Law, but really…when opportunity knocks, please answer, because now I can see the forest for the trees!

The real moral of this blog is, good things really do come to those who wait! So thank you for waiting with us and sharing the journey…please come meet the amazing people who helped bring Boutique Wearhouse to Cherry Hill and wait until you see our new home…after visiting us, you can have a mani/pedi next door at Bernard’s or sip a cappuccino at Cafe’ Flora!

How does this relate to fashion you ask? Well when all else fails, go shopping, I did yesterday at out new neighbor Posh Lingerie and bought myself 2 fabulous new bras and I really do not only look, but feel, so much better!

Robin from Boutique Wearhouse Cherry Hill
